For over six years recently, Charley also created and implemented community relations communication plans and activities for a primary research and development site of a leading biopharmaceutical company, with clear objectives and strategies, in alignment with corporate policies and practices. His efforts also helped re-establish awareness of the site's positive presence in the community.
In 2016, Charley prepared internal and executive communication plans for a leading consumer health company, with strategic imperatives, key messages and deliverables/tactics, and created content to advance transformational changes. He also created a multi-phase communication plan for the launch of a complex generic drug by a major pharmaceutical company, with objectives, strategic imperatives, positioning and messaging. In addition, he created content for a new website, overviews for presidential candidates, magazine article, media releases, statements, alerts and fact sheets promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency in New Jersey.
In 2014-15, Charley prepared a business communication plan for a pharmaceutical company that incorporates new mission, vision and core values statements in alignment with new marketing communication objectives and strategies. He provided a large pharmaceutical manufacturing operation with on-site internal communication help, including strategic recommendations, plans, training, message creation and editing, to support a major change management effort. In addition, he drafted a case study on a regional financial services company's effective and cost-efficient integration of risk management, compliance and audit software systems that was published in a major banking trade journal's e-newsletter.
In 2013, Charley helped the New Jersey Economic Development Authority's Office of Recovery with communication about federal grants and loans being made available to businesses and communities impacted by Superstorm Sandy. In addition, Charley handled local publicity for the Rockin' With Spirit benefit concert featuring the Marshall Tucker Band at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
Charley earned master's and bachelor's degrees in communication, and began his career as a newspaper reporter. A Long Branch, New Jersey resident and contributor to local digital and print media, he continues to enjoy writing about what he hears and sees. Charley has never stopped observing how organizations and people communicate, and in the fall of 2013 agreed to share his professional experiences with students as an adjunct professor in the communication departments of three New Jersey colleges.
Born Charles Lopez to Cuban immigrants in New York City, many people are surprised to learn he didn't begin speaking English until he was six years old! In October 2021, he published a memoir, Fatherlands: Identities of a Cuban American.
